Home adaptation involves modifying a home so that a person with disabilities can perform the activities of daily living as safely and comfortably as possible, while maintaining a degree of independence. The type of adaptation required will depend on the nature of the individual's disabilities, needs and the physical set-up of the home. The adaptation can be as simple as installing strategically placed handrails, bathroom aids, specialized door handles, lowering light switches and removing thresholds. Or they can be more complex, such as building outside access ramps and installing a stair-lift or elevator to improve accessibility.
We can suggest adaptations that will help
you, however we encourage you
to seek the advice of a licenced Occupational Therapist to determine what changes would
be most beneficial to you. Additionally, you may be eligible for financial assistance
through one of the programs available from: The Ontario March of Dimes, Canada Mortgage
and Housing Corporation, Veterans Independence Program or Presidents Choice Childrens Charity.
